Read the bill as a set of events
The total is the result. The line items explain how it happened.

Find the period.
Compare service dates, not only payment dates. A first bill can include an unusual period; a final bill can contain adjustments. Compare the current statement with the previous one and the actual service agreement, keeping personal details private.
Sort the components.
Separate recurring airtime, device repayments, add-ons and usage outside the allowance. Premium services, non-standard numbers, roaming and international calls can follow different rules. A spending cap may have exclusions; ask what it controls before treating it as an absolute ceiling.
Read a change notice.
Find the written notice explaining a changed recurring amount. Newer UK consumer contracts are subject to Ofcom rules on clear up-front price-rise information, but older agreements can have different terms. We do not calculate your contractual liability or determine whether a charge is valid.
Ask a focused question.
Name the line item, date range and condition you want explained. Use the provider’s secure account for billing disputes and payment difficulty support. An independent guide cannot inspect a statement, remove a charge or collect a payment.
