Keep the number. Understand the move.
A PAC is a number-transfer instruction, not a SIM replacement.

Request the appropriate code.
For a single UK mobile number, text PAC to 65075 to request a code that keeps the number when switching provider. A PAC is valid for 30 days. Requesting one does not by itself move the service. Multi-line and some account types require the provider’s online or telephone route.
Use STAC for a different intention.
If switching provider without retaining the number, the STAC route is different: text STAC to 75075. Read the information about remaining commitments before proceeding. Cancellation and finance obligations should be checked rather than inferred from a code request.
Give the code to the new provider.
The receiving provider organises the transfer. Ofcom’s guidance sets a one-working-day switching requirement, while the practical date can depend on submission cut-offs, weekends and a requested later date. Keep both SIMs and follow the receiving provider’s instructions.
Check after the move.
Test calls in both directions, texts and data. Allow for a final bill or a separate handset agreement. Do not cancel a Direct Debit solely because the number has moved; reconcile the final account first and ask the provider if anything is unclear.
Confirm before acting
These are general preparation notes, reviewed 9 November 2026. Account-specific conditions must be checked with the official provider.
